Liger - Story behind Low Box Office Collections

Posted On: 02 September 2022

Since its release, Liger has brought in a total of Rs. 46 crores at the Indian box office. With a pitiful share collection of Rs. 12.50 crores in just four days, Liger is a big DISASTER for its investors in AP/TS. In the Telugu states, the movie's theatrical rights brought in Rs. 55 crores, but distributors would still lose more than Rs. 40 crores as a result.

According to Liger producer Charmme Kaur, the recent string of box office flops in Bollywood is a "dangerous situation". Charmme spoke with the Free Press Journal,“People have access to better content in one click just by sitting at home. The whole family can watch the biggest budget films on television, and until you don’t really excite them, they aren’t coming to the theatres, “But, this is not the case in Bollywood. In August, three Telugu films - Bimbisara, Sita Ramam, and Karthikeya 2 - did phenomenally well, which made Rs. 150–170 crores. It happened in the same country. It is difficult to understand since it doesn’t mean people in the South are crazy for films. It is a scary and depressing situation".

Liger's problem also stems from audience expectations that were formed prior to the film's debut. Although it was helpful in eliciting the initial response, the replies were much more vociferous because higher expectations result in greater disappointments.

Deverakonda had advised people not to watch the movie if they did not want to in response to the 'Boycott Bollywood' trend that had emerged previous to the movie's release. Desai attacked the actor, allegedly calling him "arrogant," after the film received negative reviews on its opening day.

Although there is negative talk everywhere, the Hindi markets are nevertheless able to survive. If the talk was positive, Liger would have been emerged as a Winner, as there definitely seems to be an interest in the audience to watch mass cinema on big screen.
