‘Ponniyin Selvan-Part 1’ was a film adaptation of author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Tamil novel of the same name, which was published in the 1950s as a series.

Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 is a huge box office success. The film has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the box office and is still on a roll. Now, everyone’s attention is focused on Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2. Concerning the second instalment, the filmmakers are preparing to begin post-production work on the film, which was shot concurrently with ‘Ponniyin Selvan -1,’ unlike ‘Baahubali’ and ‘KGF’.

According to TOI, Ratnam plans to release Ponniyin Selvan-2 within the next nine months. Confirming the report, film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and revealed that Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2 were shot concurrently. In a subsequent tweet, Adarsh confirmed that Ponniyin Selvan 2 will be released in theatres next summer.

Taran Adarsh shared a post about the development of second part of the film which he captioned, “‘PS1’ – ‘PS2’ INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT… #ManiRatnam’s #PS1 is a BOXOFFICE MONSTER, rewriting record books in #TN [the #Hindi version is also faring well]… Now here’s some interesting info on both #PS1 and #PS2, shared by producers #LycaProductions to this writer… BOTH PARTS SHOT SIMULTANEOUSLY… #PS1 and #PS2 were shot ssimultaneously, unlike #Baahubali2 and #KGF2 that were shot much after the first parts were successful… This move [of shooting simultaneously] helped keep the cumulative costs of both #PS1 and #PS2 in check”.

“‘PS2’ ARRIVES SUMMER 2023… #PS2 is targeting a ‘Summer 2023’ release… The exact date will probably be locked in the next couple of weeks,” he further added.

As per the reports flowing in, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has got a tentative release date. It is being planned for a release on 28th April 2023.
