ICICI Lombard has set a new Guinness World Record with its efforts to create awareness on road safety measures. The company has been promoting the cause of Road Safety through its unique CSR initiative ‘Ride To Safety’ since 2015. The record involved 5,000 schoolchildren from 7 schools in Mumbai assembling at an open ground in Mumbai to form the shape of a helmet. The children wore specially designed ISI marked helmets that the company distributed during its ‘Ride To Safety’ workshops. The earlier record for the largest gathering for people wearing helmets at one location was 3,921 held by the Ministry of Interiors in Dubai. The Guinness attempt was adjudicated by an official Guinness representative, Lucia Sinigagliesi, who had specially flown down to Mumbai from London for the same. Senior dignitaries from the Mumbai traffic police were also present to witness the record. To support the cause, actor Shahid Kapoor also engaged with the children and motivated them to successfully complete the challenge. Bhargav Dasgupta, MD and CEO, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd. Said, “Our ‘Ride to Safety’ initiative is a unique endeavor to facilitate a behavioral change among children and parents to adopt road safety habits when riding a two-wheeler. Since its inception in 2015, we have directly contacted over 1,00,000 parents and their children to promote the cause of Road Safety and distributed more than 70,000 ISI marked helmets. We are humbled by the Guinness World Record milestone and believe that this recognition will help us further the cause of road safety among Indian children.” Actor Shahid Kapoor said, “I am honored to be associated with this initiative that rightly addresses the gap of ensuring road safety among 2-wheeler riding children. I appreciate the efforts of ICICI Lombard in taking up this cause and pursuing it with earnest.”
