Apne is a story about a family. Indian men have constantly sacrificed their hopes and desires in order to hold their families together. This film is based on a true story. Baldev Choudhary (Dharmendra) is a former boxing champion who hopes that his son Angad's (Sunny Deol) success will erase a stain on his future. However, Angad's success was thwarted by a financial crisis, which prevented him from realizing his dream. Baldev Choudhary gets another chance in the form of a television programme. He prepares a local boy for this highly awaited boxing show, but is replaced at the last minute by a better coach. Karan (Bobby Deol), Baldev Choudhary's younger son, is on the verge of releasing a music album when he learns of his father's crisis and chooses to forego his musical career in favor of boxing. He is triumphant as a result of his hard work and commitment. However, he is duped in a final with a heavyweight champion and ends up crippled in a hospital bed. Father Baldev is saddened by this. He plans to end his life, but Angad intervenes to turn the game around and add happiness to his father's life.
