Dear Maya (2017)

Anna and Ira, fourteen-year-old best friends, live in Shimla's sleepy town and are fascinated by an old abandoned bungalow near their home. According to legend, a woman named Maya Devi lived in the bungalow and hadn't left for 20 years. No man had agreed to marry her when she was of marriageable age and had many suitors, leaving her bitter, furious, and withdrawing from the world. Anna and Ira decide to write Maya Devi fictitious love letters, posing as one of the suitors she met 20 years ago and who was always in love with her. The letters change Maya Devi, and she agrees to sell everything and move to Delhi to meet her suitor. Anna is terrified and tries to tell Maya Devi the truth, but Ira refuses. She then tries to confess on her own, but she eventually backs out. After Maya Devi leaves for Delhi, Anna confesses to her parents, who decide to send Anna to boarding school, far away from Ira, with whom Anna refuses to talk again. Anna, now a 21-year-old college student in Delhi, is still haunted by her past behaviour seven years later and is looking for Maya Devi. Even though they are no longer on speaking terms, Ira is compelled to join Anna in her quest. The girls plan to search for her one last time in Delhi. What they find absolutely astounds them.
