Gandhi, My Father (2007)
Mahatma Gandhi was a great My Father portrays the tragedy of Mahatma Gandhi's father-son relationship with Harilal Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was able to change the soul of a country, but he was unable to save his own son's soul. Harilal, his eldest son, wore his Gandhi identity like a curse around his neck. He wandered the streets like a beggar in the shadows of his father, converted to Islam as a revolt, then returned to Hinduism as a penance, and eventually drank himself to death. The film depicts Gandhi's deep wound in his heart as a great human being and Father of the Nation who failed as a father to his own children. Gandhi suffered financially, economically, and politically, but he never lost sight of his ideals and desire for human dignity.
