Kaya Taran (2004)

1h 47mins| Drama | 04th December 2004

Preet is a quiet young journalist reporting on conversions at a convent for elderly nuns in Meerut. His meeting with Sister Agatha, a Malayalee nun who operates the convent, reawakens memories of an incident that occurred in the convent in 1984, and the story shifts into flashback mode. Amarjeet Kaur, a young Sikh woman, and her 8-year-old son Jaggi seek shelter in the convent as they flee from marauding rioters. The nuns provide them with a hiding place by having the mother wear nun's robes and cutting the boy's long hair. The young boy eventually settles in and becomes a part of the convent's everyday routine, giving the nuns something to look forward to in their otherwise mundane lives. The nuns refuse to give in to the relentless threats of the assassins plotting Amarjeet and Jaggi's abduction. Preet makes peace with his troubled past while reclaiming the outward sign of his personality, as the story travels forward and backward in time. Preet is seen wearing a turban at the end of the film.
