Kurbaan (2009)

Avantika (Kareena Kapoor), a New York-based psychology professor, chooses to return to India to care for her ailing father. She finds temporary work at the prestigious Delhi University, where she meets Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan), a substitute teacher. Despite his concerns about Ehsaan's religion, her father decides to bless their marriage. Avantika and Ehsaan have married and moved to New York to start a new life. Avantika manages to offer Ehsaan a job at a nearby university as soon as they arrive. Avantika is astounded by their conservative Muslim neighbours and their way of life. She is taken away from Ehsaan for dinner and placed in a different quarter where all the women dine separately. They all seem to blindly follow and obey Nasreen's code of conduct, which she and her husband Bhaijaan have established as the neighborhood's de facto rulers. They all look up to her. Salma, another young woman, is accepted by everyone. The next day, Salma pays Avantika a surprise visit and warns her not to trust anybody. She informs her that her own life is in danger and that she needs assistance. Avantika's life is turned upside down by a series of bizarre occurrences that plunge her into a whirlpool of emotions that spiral out of control, bringing her to a point of no return.
