Listen... Amaya (2013)

1h 48mins| Drama | 01st February 2013

Leela Krishnamoorthy, a middle-aged widow as interesting and free-spirited as the cafe she runs, owns and runs Book a Coffee, an offbeat library and coffee shop. Leela's only sister, Amaya, is a fiery 22-year-old writer who is quick-witted, optimistic, and open-minded. They adore each other in the way that only a mother and a daughter can. Jayant Sinha, a 60-year-old retired photographer, is thrown into the mix. He is a great friend of Amaya Krishnamoorthy, with whom he plans to co-author a coffee table book called "Memoriesof The Busy Bazaar." The title "The Busy Bazaar" tells its own story and adds a subtle yet fascinating undercurrent to the story that surrounds it. Leela continues to wallow in the unfairness of life after losing her husband 12 years ago. It manifests itself in the kind of person she becomes, the way her daughter is raised, and the people she attracts. Leela also falls in love again along the way. Leela has reason to believe that Amaya's open-minded and modern reaction to different things around her would not stifle her relationship with her daughter. Leela, on the other hand, is wrong... Amaya's journey of rage, betrayal, and denial culminates in her understanding of the reasons for all that has occurred between her and her mother in the film. Listen Amaya is a film about relationships, family dynamics, preconceptions, and priorities that is new, young, and contemporary.
