Marigold (2007)
Marigold is a musical romantic comedy about a young American woman who travels to India and discovers that her life is changed in unexpected ways as a result of her adventures and experiences there. Ali Larter portrays an American actress who is drawn into the Bollywood film industry. Ali Larter's actress role is appealing to the western audience - she's blonde, which is "traditional" for a "white" person in a Bollywood film and visually understandable casting - but she's a robust girl, not the ethereal kind of Blondie we're used to seeing, and she's a more or less three-dimensional complete slut, carrying on profane and violent cell-phone conversations with a boyfrie. Salman Khan portrays a Hindi film choreographer who becomes the actress's shoulder to cry on. Willard Carroll, a Hollywood producer, is able to capture the charm of Indian locations while still offering the western audience a true image of both industries.
