Padmaavat is a tale of honour, valour, and obsession set in mediaeval India in 1303 AD. Queen Padmavati is the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh and the pride of the Kingdom of Chittor, a prosperous kingdom in India's north west. She is renowned for her extraordinary beauty as well as a powerful sense of justice. The sultan of Hindustan, Allaudin Khilji, hears about her beauty legend. The dictator sultan is obsessed with obtaining something of extraordinary beauty for himself. He lays siege to Chittorgarh's impregnable castle. He returns empty-handed after a gruelling six months. He becomes obsessed, and he will stop at nothing to catch Chittor and its Queen. He returns with a larger army and a furious rage. He launches a vicious assault on Chittor, resulting in a bloody and terrifying war between the holy Maharawal Ratan Singh, who is defending his kingdom and the honour of his Queen, and Sultan Allaudin Khilji. The fortress is breached by Khilji, but it is in vain because the Queen continues to make the supreme sacrifice to defend her honour.
