Rani, Lajo, and Bijli live in a remote part of West India where patriarchal norms and values are a way of life. Though Rani is raising her son on her own, Lajo, who is unable to conceive, is constantly beaten by her alcoholic husband, and Bijli, a dancer, is a social outcast.
