Anyone's first love holds a special place in their heart, particularly if the memory is laced with the vibrant musings of the city where they grew up. Benaras has a special place in Kundan's heart because it is where he not only grew up as a normal, god-fearing shiv bhakt-Pandit, but also where he met Zoya. Zoya was the girl of his dreams: quiet, stunning, and with mischievous eyes. The first time he saw her on the busy streets, sitting regally in a Tonga, she was like a breath of fresh air. He'd accompany her to the bazaar and back before he worked up the courage to talk to her and tell her his true feelings - his 13-year-old heart, smitten by her simplicity. Of course, she doesn't take him seriously and dismisses him. After some time has passed, Zoya decides to continue her education in Delhi. Joy, they claim, grows stronger with time, and Kundan's love for Zoya never fades; he carries his feelings throughout college, and his heart flips when Zoya returns to his hometown. Kundan is overjoyed that Zoya has returned to Benaras and that he will be able to tell her how he feels. Zoya eventually meets Kundan and tells him about her true feelings. She is in love with Akram, a Delhi-based college mate, and she seeks Kundan's assistance in marrying him. Kundan's world is shattered, and the anger he feels is indescribable. He's torn between his true feelings for Zoya and his heart's cries to help her find true love because no one knows her suffering like he does. He sets out to reunite her with Akram, and what follows is a story of passion, betrayal, redemption, and reconciliation set in the deeply rooted city of Benaras and the brisk political environs of Delhi.
