Rajveer (Rishi Kapoor) and Amrit (Rekha) adopt the child of the previous house owner who fled due to communal riots when they move to Amritsar, Punjab. Ishaan is the boy's name as he grows up (Luv Sinha). He has feelings for Chandni (Ferena Wazeir), but when he approaches her father to ask for her hand in marriage, he declines, stating that he will not marry his daughter to a Hindu. As a result, Rajveer and Amrit announce that Ishaan is not their son and is a Muslim. The quest for Ishaan's biological parents has begun. Do they find what they're looking for?
