The Japanese Wife (2010)

1h 45mins| Drama, Romance | 09th April 2010

Three shy people are involved in this haunting but unlikely love story: Snehamoy Chatterjee, an arithmetic teacher in a riverine West Bengal school; Miyage, a Japanese girl who became his wife through an odd series of letters; and Sandhya, a widow forced to take shelter in his home by circumstances. It all started when Snehamoy was a Serampore College student staying in a hostel and studying for his BSc test. He had written a letter to a name he had noticed in a magazine under 'pen buddies' because he was too shy to make friends with his rowdy classmates. The response came a month later, culminating in an everlasting bond between two people who didn't speak the same language and were forced to communicate using dictionaries in a foreign language - English - with frequently hilarious results.
