Veer-Zaara (2004)

After rescuing the Pakistani girl Zaara from rubble, IAF Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh realises that his life will never be the same. Veer quits his job and travels to Pakistan to ask Zaara for her hand in marriage after realising their love is mutual. Her wealthy political family, on the other hand, is opposed to such an unsavoury relationship. They accuse Veer of being a spy and imprison him. Zara, meanwhile, marries a family friend who will help her father's political career. Twenty-two years later, Saamiya Siddiqui, a Pakistani human rights lawyer on her first case, comes across an elderly Veer. She makes it her life's work to figure out why Veer has stayed quiet about the allegations and to get him whatever justice she can.
