Viceroy's House (2017)
The British Raj was coming to an end after 300 years. Lord Mountbatten, the great grandson of Queen Victoria, served as the last Viceroy of India for six months in 1947, tasked with returning India to its citizens. The story takes place in Delhi's Viceroy's House, where Mountbatten stayed upstairs with his wife and daughter, as well as 500 Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh servants who lived downstairs. Conflict erupted as the political elite - Nehru, Jinnah, and Gandhi - converged on the House to argue about the birth of independent India. The country was divided and a new Muslim homeland, Pakistan, was created. It was a decision whose ramifications can still be felt today. The real story of the final months of British rule in India is told in Viceroy's House.
